The classic overthinking definition is, “to think about something too much or for too long.”
Overthinking can be problematic when it interferes with your daily life activities. Some people can get rid of their thoughts easily, but for some people it is really a tough job!
Here are some methods you can try and practice daily to stop overthinking.
1. Accept yourself:
To solve any problem, you should first accept the problem. Acceptance is the key! You should know that, ''IT IS OKAY!'' to overthink. You are not the alone with this issue. And with time and consistent efforts you will surely be able to move yourself.
2. Keep a distraction totem:
A distraction totem is any object or activity that will help and enforce you to distract yourself with conscious efforts. It can either be a single object or activity or else a bunch of it. May it can be reading, walking or solving a rheubic's cube. You just need an activity to engage yourself!
3. Try to maintain an "Optimism Diary" :
You can write various positive things in this diary, for e.g. things you are grateful for, or any specific happy incidence in a day. So that you can see all the positive sides of the life and be less stressful.
4. Talk to someone.
The burden of thoughts and feelings is lessen when you ventilate them. We all have that one person with whom we can share anything without the fear of being judged. Try to connect with such people.
5. Write down you thoughts :
People are not always free in this chaotic world. If not able to talk to someone, you can write down your thoughts. Once out of the mind, those thoughts cannot affect you.
6. Meditate :
Meditation trains our brain in a disciplined manner & helps it to prevent from wandering into the streets of thoughts. You can try out guided meditations at first and then gradually can practice it without directions. Meditation for at least 15- 20 minutes can do wonders.
Also, only reading this piece of information will not help you get rid of overthinking. Remember, consistency is the key. You should try and practice daily with patience to let change to occur.
